The Perfect Circle

⏱️ 5 min 📊 Beginner 🖌️ Tool: Pen
Example of a perfectly drawn circle

Why this matters: The circle is the foundation of everything organic—from eyes to apples to wheels. Mastering the continuous fluid motion of your wrist is the first step to confident drawing.

Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Challenge

1 Setup Your Canvas

Look to the right panel – that's your live drawing app. Make sure the Pen is selected. Set your brush size to 5 (click the gear icon on the right toolbar). Pick a bold color like #E74C3C (a warm red).

💡 The app auto-saves every stroke. Don't worry if you refresh the page!

2 The "Shoulder Pivot"

Lock your wrist and move your entire forearm in a circular motion. Draw a large circle in one continuous stroke. Don't lift your pen until you return to the start.

  • Go counter-clockwise or clockwise – whatever feels most natural to you.
  • Size: Aim for a diameter roughly the size of a coffee mug (about 2–3 inches or 5–7 cm across).

3 Refine & Overlap

Hit Undo (Ctrl+Z) to clear wobbly attempts. Now draw three circles on top of each other, trying to make them perfectly overlap like a bullseye.

If you need a visual guide, turn on the Grid (Settings → Show Grid) to help with proportions and centering.

4 🏆 The Challenge

Click "Clear" on the right toolbar to wipe the canvas. Set a timer for 30 seconds. Draw as many smooth circles as you can fit on the canvas. Focus entirely on flow, not perfection.

When the timer is up, hit the Save button to download your warm-up sheet!
